Arabic version: إيران تشير إلى التحديات في المفاوضات مع الولايات المتحدة مع تصاعد الدبلوماسية
Diplomatic efforts to broker a peace agreement between Iran and the United States have escalated, with Pakistan’s powerful army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, arriving in Tehran. Pakistani officials are reportedly playing a growing mediation role as regional powers seek to avert a wider conflict. According to Al Jazeera, Iranian officials have tempered expectations regarding a swift breakthrough, citing significant differences that remain in the mediated talks.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that the gaps in negotiations with the US are “deep and significant,” indicating that considerable obstacles still exist. An Iranian official stated that halting the war on all fronts is a necessary condition for any future negotiations, underscoring that no final agreement has yet been reached despite ongoing efforts.
Iran described its diplomatic engagements with the US as reaching a “decisive” stage, with the presence of senior Pakistani officials in Tehran being a positive development. However, Iranian officials have reiterated their commitment to pursuing peaceful nuclear energy while refusing to disclose details of the ongoing negotiations, citing past experiences that led to conflict.
The US has acknowledged that “some progress” has been made in talks, although major differences persist, particularly regarding Iran’s enriched uranium program and control of the Strait of Hormuz. As diplomatic efforts continue, Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Washington still has “other options” if these negotiations fail, indicating the high stakes involved in the ongoing discussions.
