Arabic version: إسرائيل تشن غارات جوية في جنوب لبنان رغم وقف إطلاق النار
Israeli forces have conducted a series of airstrikes in southern Lebanon, targeting areas near the Syrian border and several villages. This latest wave of attacks occurred overnight from May 22 to May 23, following earlier raids that resulted in the deaths of 10 people. According to Al Jazeera, the Lebanese National News Agency reported five Israeli airstrikes shortly before midnight in the Nabi Sreij area, which had previously been unaffected since April 17.
The airstrikes led to significant explosions in the towns of Yohmor al-Shaqif and Taybeh, further escalating tensions in the region. On Thursday, an Israeli attack near the Tebnine Hospital reportedly caused extensive damage to the facility, impacting multiple floors, including critical care areas and ambulances parked outside.
In response to the ongoing violence, Israel’s military issued forced displacement warnings for the southern Lebanese village of Burj Rahal and the areas of Tyre and Zqouq al-Mufdi. Residents have fled their homes out of fear, with reports of families seeking safety amid the chaos. Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto described the situation as one of psychological terror for those living in southern Lebanon.
Since the escalation of hostilities on March 2, over 3,100 individuals have lost their lives in Lebanon, including 123 medics, more than 210 children, and nearly 300 women. These attacks persist despite a ceasefire that was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on April 16, highlighting the continued volatility in the region.
