Arabic version: مستأجر يحتضن حياة الحديقة رغم تحديات الإيجار
Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett has decided to embrace her garden after years of neglect, choosing to enjoy her rented space fully. As a tenant, she shares the common struggles of renting, including the uncertainty of investment in a property that could be taken away at any moment. However, recent changes in tenant rights have provided her with a renewed sense of security.
According to The Guardian, the introduction of new legal rights for tenants has allowed renters like Cosslett to feel more at home. With the promise of eviction only for a very good reason, she feels encouraged to invest time and effort into her garden, which she now refers to as “my garden.”
Cosslett reflects on her 15 years of renting, balancing feelings of gratitude for her stable tenancy with frustrations about the financial implications of renting. Despite societal pressures surrounding home ownership, she has chosen to cultivate her living space, planting flowers and creating a welcoming environment for her family.
Despite the challenges faced by renters, Cosslett finds joy in her garden, where she has planted roses and a magnolia tree. She acknowledges the difficulties of being a tenant but emphasizes the importance of making the most of her situation. In her view, many of her neighbors have also chosen to embrace their rented homes, creating vibrant spaces filled with life and greenery.
