Arabic version: ترامب يشير إلى تأخير في مفاوضات الاتفاق مع إيران
U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed his representatives to avoid rushing into an agreement with Iran, dampening optimism for a quick resolution to the ongoing conflict that has now entered its 87th day. According to Al Jazeera, the U.S. blockade on Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz will remain in full force and effect until a formal agreement is reached, certified, and signed.
Despite previous indications that a deal had been largely negotiated, Trump clarified on social media that the blockade would continue. Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported an execution related to January’s antigovernment protests, highlighting the internal tensions within Iran.
A senior official from the Trump administration stated that an agreement would not be signed on Sunday, citing the slow pace of the Iranian system. The U.S. official noted that Iran had agreed “in principle” to open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the naval blockade and disposing of highly enriched uranium. However, there was no immediate confirmation from Iranian authorities regarding this proposal.
In the U.S., Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the need for a solid agreement, stating that the president would not settle for a poor deal. Meanwhile, Trump faces increasing opposition from hawkish members of his own party who are against any negotiated settlement regarding the conflict with Iran.
