Arabic version: الضربات الإسرائيلية في لبنان تؤدي إلى سقوط عدد كبير من الضحايا
Dozens of people have been killed in an intensive wave of Israeli strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon, with the Lebanese health ministry reporting at least 31 fatalities, including several children. This surge in military action follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of intensified operations against Hezbollah, signaling a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.
According to BBC News, the Israeli military stated it targeted more than 100 Hezbollah infrastructure sites during one of the heaviest nights of bombardment since a US-brokered ceasefire began in mid-April. Netanyahu emphasized the need for a stronger military presence in Lebanon, asserting that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would deepen operations to protect northern Israeli communities from Hezbollah attacks.
The ongoing hostilities have seen both sides violate the ceasefire, complicating diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. Israeli air and artillery strikes have been consistent, particularly in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah has retaliated with rockets and drones aimed at northern Israel. Recent airstrikes have specifically targeted locations such as the Bekaa Valley village of Mashghara, resulting in significant destruction and loss of life.
In a statement, Netanyahu vowed to deliver a “crushing blow” to Hezbollah in response to their attacks, which included the use of advanced drone technology. Following his remarks, panic ensued in Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut, with many residents attempting to flee the area for safety.
The situation remains dire, with ongoing military operations leading to further casualties and destruction. As rescue efforts continue, the humanitarian impact of the conflict is becoming increasingly severe, with reports of widespread devastation in affected areas like Mashghara, where several homes have been destroyed.
