Ferrari’s unveiling of the Luce EV has left many fans shocked and disappointed. The electric model, which was unveiled on 25 May, has sparked criticism among the company’s passionate fanbase, with some questioning its design and authenticity as a Ferrari. According to The Guardian, Fabio Barone, president of the Passione Rossa Ferrari owners’ club, expressed his dismay, stating that the design has shaken the very foundations of the legendary brand.

The five-seater blue Luce, which translates to ‘light’ in Italian, has drawn comparisons to other cars, including a Nissan and even the Fiat Multipla, a vehicle often labeled as the world’s ugliest car. Barone’s primary concern lies in the car’s silence, asking, “How can you have a Ferrari without any vroom?”

In response to the criticism, Ferrari has attempted to address the sound issue by incorporating artificial sound generated by sensors, though it remains uncertain if this will satisfy traditionalists. The initial market reaction saw Ferrari’s stock drop significantly, with an 8.4% decline in Milan trading and a 5.3% fall in the US market. However, after CEO Benedetto Vigna reported growing interest from potential buyers, the share price recovered slightly, regaining 3.5%.

Vigna emphasized the company’s efforts to attract a broader audience beyond its traditional fans, indicating a shift in strategy. Investment analysts have noted that despite the backlash, the limited production of fewer than 1,000 units may allow Ferrari to find a niche market among wealthy buyers open to new designs. Barone’s club, which counts 70 members across Italy, continues to celebrate the brand’s legacy, but the reception of the Luce EV suggests a challenging road ahead for Ferrari’s electric future.
