According to BBC News,

Emergency services were called to Ferry Boat Lane at about 20:00 BST on Saturday for a search for an 11-year-old boy who was last seen entering the River Don in Mexborough. The boy was reported to have entered the water but had not been seen getting out. South Yorkshire Police stated that they are conducting a specialist operation, which includes underwater searches, to locate the missing child. The boy’s family is being supported during this difficult time.

Insp Neil Pryce emphasized the importance of allowing emergency crews to conduct their work safely. He noted that witnesses and items left on the riverbank indicated where the boy may have entered the water. “Utilising specialist knowledge and skills, a coordinated multi-agency operation is under way and we are doing everything we can to find this young man,” Pryce said.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were deployed on Saturday to assist with the search but “unfortunately were unable to locate the missing boy.” Search efforts are currently still ongoing, and authorities continue to request that the public stay away from the area to ensure safety and facilitate the operation.
