Iran has restored gas production at three offshore platforms in the South Pars gasfield, according to Al Jazeera. Touraj Dehqani, the head of the Pars Oil and Gas Company, confirmed that the platforms were not damaged during the Israeli military attacks in March.

The production from these platforms is currently being routed to other processing plants in the region while repairs are underway at facilities that sustained damage. The South Pars gasfield is recognized as the world’s largest natural gasfield, located off the southern coast of Iran’s Bushehr province.

The resumption of gas production is seen as significant for Iran, especially in the context of ongoing geopolitical tensions. Al Jazeera reporter Tohid Asadi noted that this move symbolizes Iran’s efforts to rebuild its energy infrastructure after recent attacks.

Despite the restoration of production, the future of Iran’s energy exports remains uncertain as negotiations with the United States continue. Iran’s chief negotiator emphasized that any agreement would require the full recognition of Iran’s rights. The South Pars gasfield is a critical source of energy for Iran, which faces challenges in meeting its domestic electricity needs.
