Kevin Keegan, the former England and Newcastle manager, has disclosed that he is battling stage four cancer. The 75-year-old provided an update on his health during an appearance at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, where he expressed confidence in his medical team. According to The Guardian, Keegan mentioned that he is under the care of a ‘top doctor’ who is a Liverpool supporter, indicating that he feels supported in his fight against the disease.

Newcastle United, where Keegan enjoyed significant success both as a player and manager, expressed their heartfelt support for him in a post on social media. The club emphasized Keegan’s unique connection to Newcastle, stating that he holds a cherished place in the hearts of their supporters. They extended their best wishes to him and his family, highlighting their hope to see him return to St James’ Park soon.

Keegan’s illustrious football career began at Scunthorpe before he moved to Liverpool in 1971, where he won multiple titles, including the European Cup. He later had a successful spell in Germany with Hamburg, winning the Ballon d’Or twice. As a manager, he led Newcastle into the Premier League and came close to winning the title during the 1995-96 season.

During the event, Keegan expressed a desire to return to St James’ Park to say goodbye, stating he did not have the opportunity to do so during his last departure from the club.
