U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has dismissed concerns regarding President Donald Trump’s mental acuity as “absurd and ridiculous.” During a congressional hearing, Rubio defended Trump amidst ongoing public scrutiny about the president’s health, particularly as he approaches his 80th birthday on June 14. According to ABC News, Rubio was confronted with video clips showing Trump appearing to doze off during cabinet meetings.

Rubio stated, “You may not like his policies, you may not like the decisions he’s made. But I assure you, this is not a president that sleeps or is cognitively impaired in any way, shape, or form.” He emphasized that Trump works non-stop and gets very little sleep, asserting that the president operates on long hours.

Despite Rubio’s defense, questions about Trump’s fitness remain prevalent. A recent Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll indicated that 59% of respondents believed Trump lacked the mental capacity to lead, while 55% expressed concerns about his physical health. This scrutiny contrasts with the attention paid to Joe Biden’s health during his presidency.

Trump’s doctors recently reported that he is in “excellent health” following a check-up, although they advised him to lose weight. Rubio’s comments came as Trump hinted at a potential 2028 presidential ticket featuring Rubio and current Vice President JD Vance, describing it as “hard to beat.”
