Israeli forces opened fire on a car in the occupied West Bank, killing a seven-month-old boy and wounding his parents. The incident occurred in Hebron on Friday, as reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The infant, Sam Fahd Abou Haikal, was taken to a hospital after the shooting but died from his injuries. His grandmother, Ferial Abu Haikal, expressed shock at the attack, stating that the family’s vehicle was completely stopped and posed no threat.

In a statement on social media platform X, the Israeli military claimed that soldiers perceived the vehicle as accelerating toward them during operational activity. They stated that the soldiers responded with single shots, leading to the injury of three Palestinians who were later evacuated for medical treatment.

An initial inquiry by the Israeli military indicated that those injured were uninvolved civilians, and the incident is currently under review. Violence in the occupied West Bank has escalated since Israel began its war on Gaza in October 2023, with reports indicating that at least 1,080 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank during this period, according to an AFP tally based on Palestinian Health Ministry data. According to Al Jazeera, the situation continues to draw international attention and concern.
