Arabic version: ميررا أندرييفا تحقق أول ألقابها الكبرى في بطولة فرنسا المفتوحة
Teenager Mirra Andreeva secured her first Grand Slam title by defeating Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska with a score of 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the French Open. This victory marks a significant achievement for the 19-year-old Russian, who is now the youngest woman to win the Roland Garros title since Monica Seles in 1992. According to BBC News, Andreeva’s triumph came after a tense start, with both players struggling to hold serve due to nerves and windy conditions.
Andreeva, seeded eighth, showcased her composure throughout the match, overcoming an early break by Chwalinska, who was a 500-1 outsider before the tournament. After initially dropping the first game, Andreeva rallied to win nine consecutive games, establishing a commanding lead. Despite a brief setback when she failed to serve out the match on her first attempt, she clinched the championship point with a decisive backhand winner.
The young champion expressed her joy after the match, revealing that winning the French Open had been a dream since childhood. She credited her coach, Conchita Martinez, for providing invaluable guidance during their two-year partnership. Andreeva’s victory is a testament to her growth as a player, having reached the French Open semi-finals in 2024 and winning two WTA 1000 titles in 2025.
Chwalinska’s journey to the final was remarkable, as she became the second qualifier in the Open era to reach a Grand Slam singles final, following Emma Raducanu’s success in 2021. Despite the defeat, Chwalinska reflected on her transformative experience in Paris, stating that the memories made will remain with her forever. She earned €1.4 million in prize money, significantly boosting her career earnings and propelling her to a career-high ranking of 21st in the world.
