The United States and Iran have announced they have agreed on a deal to end the US-Israel war on Iran, including Israeli attacks on Lebanon, and to reopen the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz – a development welcomed worldwide as a potential path to a lasting end to the conflict. President Donald Trump announced the completion of the deal on his Truth Social platform, urging international shipping to resume operations, stating, “Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” According to Al Jazeera, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi indicated that a broader agreement addressing sanctions relief would be negotiated during a 60-day ceasefire.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Washington and Tehran for their “commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict” and thanked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye for their contribution in securing the agreement. The accord is due to be signed on Friday in Switzerland in what is being described as a major breakthrough after months of fighting that has killed thousands of people and sent global energy prices soaring.

Reactions from various nations have underscored the deal’s importance. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its “appreciation for the determination of both the American and Iranian sides and their commitment to moving forward in resolving differences through negotiations and peaceful means.” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hailed the agreement as a vital step towards regional peace, emphasizing Türkiye’s support for diplomatic efforts.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres characterized the deal as a “critical step” towards achieving a peaceful resolution. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called it a “hugely important” milestone, stressing the need for unrestricted navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the necessity of robust commitments regarding Iran’s nuclear program. French President Emmanuel Macron echoed the call for the Strait’s urgent reopening, linking it to both regional stability and the global economy.
