Arabic version: كندا تحتفل بفوز تاريخي في كأس العالم على قطر
According to SBS News,
Canada achieved a significant milestone by securing its first-ever World Cup victory, dominating Qatar with a score of 6-0 in Vancouver. Jonathan David was the standout player, scoring a hat-trick and leading the co-hosts to the top of Group B.
The match was marred by injury, as Canadian midfielder Ismael Kone was carried off the pitch with a suspected broken left leg following a challenge that resulted in a red card for Qatar’s Assim Madibo. Despite the setback, Canada opened the scoring with Cyle Larin capitalizing on a rebound. David then scored twice, and Nathan Saliba extended the lead with a free kick.
In other matches, Mexico secured a 1-0 victory over South Korea, ensuring their place in the knockout stage. Luis Romo’s goal came after a mistake by South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu, who failed to gather a cross after colliding with a teammate. Mexico will face the Czech Republic next, while South Korea will play against South Africa.
Switzerland also enjoyed success, overpowering Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1 with a strong second-half performance. Johan Manzambi’s impressive volley opened the scoring, and he added another goal late in the match. The Swiss team capitalized on a red card for Bosnia’s Tarik Muharemović, which shifted the momentum in their favor.
In a closely contested match, South Africa managed to draw 1-1 with the Czech Republic thanks to a late penalty from Teboho Mokoena. The Czechs had taken an early lead, but South Africa’s persistence paid off, keeping their hopes of qualification alive. Both teams will look to secure wins in their upcoming matches to advance in the tournament.
