Hull KR have appointed Nathan Cayless as their head coach on a three-year contract from next season. The 48-year-old New Zealander will replace Willie Peters, who announced in March that he would be leaving at the conclusion of the 2026 season to take over at new National Rugby League side Papua New Guinea Chiefs.

According to BBC News, Cayless has been coaching the Parramatta Eels’ New South Wales Cup side and is also assistant coach of New Zealand. He expressed enthusiasm for his new role, stating that his coaching philosophy aligns with the hardworking culture at Hull KR.

Cayless spent his entire playing career with the Parramatta Eels from 1998 to 2010, making 259 appearances and holding the record for captaining the club 221 times. He also skippered New Zealand to success in the 2008 World Cup final with victory over Australia.

Jim Sarantinos, chief executive of the Eels, praised Cayless for his contributions to the club, highlighting his invaluable work in developing young players for NRL competition. The appointment of Cayless marks a significant step for Hull KR as they seek to maintain their status as reigning Super League champions.
