Arabic version: رجل من ملبورن يُحكم عليه بالسجن بتهمة قتل زوجته المنفصلة
Jessie James Tumaliuan has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for the murder of his estranged wife, Czarina Gatbonton Tumaliuan, on March 27, 2025. A Melbourne court revealed that Tumaliuan had a history of abusing and assaulting his former partner over several years before the fatal incident.
According to ABC News, Tumaliuan’s violent behavior escalated to murder when he fatally stabbed Czarina in her own backyard after years of terrorizing her. The court heard that he had repeatedly breached intervention orders aimed at protecting her.
On the day of the murder, Tumaliuan waited for Czarina to return home and forced his way inside. The attack was partly captured on CCTV, showing the couple arguing before he armed himself with kitchen knives. Justice Amanda Fox described the victim as unarmed and terrified during the attack, which ended with her being stabbed eight times.
Justice Fox emphasized the impact of Tumaliuan’s actions on Czarina’s children and family, stating that they were left heartbroken by her death. Tumaliuan, who showed no emotion during sentencing, will be deported to the Philippines upon his release from prison. The case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence, with significant numbers of incidents reported in Victoria each year.
