According to BBC News, England beat Australia 45-22 at Allianz Stadium, scoring seven tries in an emphatic performance that backed head coach Steve Borthwick after questions over the side’s form and reports of a summer rift between players and coaches.
Jamie George opened the scoring from a driven maul after eight minutes. Ollie Chessum then crossed following a break by Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, while Joe Heyes scored from another maul with Australia prop Angus Bell in the sin bin. Max Jorgensen’s interception try just before half-time cut England’s lead to 19-10.
Feyi-Waboso, whose second-minute try was ruled out for a forward pass earlier in the move, did not return after the interval. He finished as the match’s leading metre-maker with 113 metres from eight carries. Henry Pollock came off the bench to fill in on the wing, with no back-three replacements available.
Jack van Poortvliet restored England’s cushion after the restart, before Pollock scored twice. Australia replied through Filipo Daugunu and Jeremy Williams, but Ben Spencer intercepted to score his first Test try and complete the hosts’ win. England will face New Zealand in a fortnight, while Borthwick will have concerns over injuries to Feyi-Waboso and centre Seb Atkinson.
