An Australian man has been charged with murder after the body of a 17-year-old girl was found in a suitcase in Thailand. Local and Australian media report that the teenager, named in local media as Tunchanok Donhomla, was found discarded near a railway track in Pattaya in the early hours of Saturday.
According to BBC News, police arrested Simon Peter Carman at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport at 01:15 on Saturday as he was allegedly preparing to flee the country. He reportedly denies the charges against him.
The victim had been reported missing at 17:00 local time (12:00 GMT) on Friday. Authorities reviewed CCTV footage that allegedly showed Carman entering a condominium with her and later leaving alone carrying a large suitcase. He was seen loading the bag onto a motorbike before driving towards the railway line.
Carman faces multiple charges, including murder, moving or concealing a body, and taking a minor for sexual purposes. He has claimed he acted in self-defense. In a message to the victim’s family, he expressed regret for the incident, stating it was out of his control.
The victim’s father expressed deep sadness over his daughter’s death, while her step-mother called for Carman to face the full consequences of his actions.
