A light aircraft crash in a field in High Ongar, Essex, resulted in the deaths of two individuals during a flight experience. The two-seat Cessna plane went down off Mill Lane in High Ongar at about 12:30 BST on Tuesday, according to police reports.
The aircraft had departed from North Weald Airfield for what was expected to be a short journey. Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin confirmed that the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is conducting ongoing inquiries into the incident, which has been classified as an accident.
At a press conference, Cronin stated that the victims have yet to be formally identified. He expressed condolences, noting, “The two-seat Cessna aircraft was carrying out a short flying experience flight but, sadly, it did not return.”
Witnesses to the crash alerted authorities, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Investigators were on the scene on Wednesday and are expected to continue their work in the coming days. Cronin assured that the families of the victims will be treated with dignity and respect as investigators seek to provide them with answers.
In a show of community support, St Mary’s Church in High Ongar encouraged residents to pray for those affected by the tragedy, including the emergency responders and the local community.
