Secret police recordings used in celebrity crocodile wrangler Matt Wright’s Supreme Court trial have been released to the media. The Northern Territory Supreme Court made the recordings available, which include Wright’s first police interview following a helicopter accident that resulted in the death of his co-star, Chris “Willow” Wilson, and serious injuries to pilot Sebastian Robinson.

According to ABC News, Wright was convicted on two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice following a month-long trial in August last year. The recordings include phone calls between Wright and friends, as well as his initial interactions with police just days after the incident.

Wright’s conviction stemmed from a lie he told police regarding the helicopter’s fuel levels shortly after the crash. During his police interview, he stated that the helicopter had “maybe half a tank” of fuel. Prosecutors argued that he was attempting to mislead investigators to protect the pilot, Robinson, from prosecution.

The court also released recordings of conversations between Wright and Robinson while the latter was hospitalized. In these conversations, Wright allegedly suggested falsifying helicopter records. The prosecution’s case included various discussions about flight-hour paperwork and maintenance documents for the crashed helicopter.

While Wright has expressed intentions to appeal the jury’s verdict, the release of these recordings provides critical insight into the prosecution’s arguments and the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident that occurred on February 28, 2022.
