Arabic version: رجل أسترالي محتجز بتهمة قتل مراهق تايلاندي
Simon Peter Carman, a 45-year-old Australian, is accused of murdering 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla in Pattaya, Thailand. According to ABC News, Carman had isolated himself from friends and family in Australia over the past decade, preferring to live in Thailand since late last year.
The alleged murder occurred in Carman’s rented room in Pattaya, a city known internationally for its red light district. Thai police are currently holding him in Pattaya Prison as they complete their investigation. Carman was arrested at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport while attempting to return to Australia, with scratch marks on his neck and arms noted by the arresting officers.
CCTV footage played a crucial role in the investigation, showing Carman leaving his room with a heavy suitcase and later returning without it. Police subsequently discovered the suitcase near a train track, containing the body of Tunchanok, who had been reported missing on June 26.
Carman initially denied any wrongdoing but later confessed to killing the teenager, claiming she had threatened him after a dispute over money. He faces multiple charges, including murder and concealing a body, while Tunchanok’s family is advocating for the death penalty if he is convicted.
