At least 16 Palestinians have been reported killed in Israeli attacks or recovered from rubble over the past 48 hours in Gaza, according to health officials. The Gaza Ministry of Health stated that hospitals across the besieged enclave received the bodies of 16 Palestinians, with seven killed in recent Israeli assaults and nine recovered from under destroyed buildings.

The ministry also reported that 16 individuals were injured during the same period, adding that more victims remain trapped under rubble as ambulance and civil defense personnel have been unable to access those areas. The circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries have not been specified by the ministry.

These latest fatalities occur despite a United States-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas established in October. While large-scale fighting has largely decreased, Israeli attacks on Palestinians in Gaza have persisted. Since the ceasefire took effect, Israeli army violations have reportedly resulted in 1,066 deaths and 3,445 injuries, according to the ministry.

The recent casualties bring the overall death toll from the conflict in Gaza since October 2023 to 73,090, with 173,550 others injured. During the ceasefire, the Israeli military has continued to expand its control within Gaza and has issued forced displacement orders. In late May, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to extend military control to over 70 percent of the Gaza Strip.

Negotiations regarding the terms of the ceasefire, including Hamas’s disarmament and the scope of an Israeli military withdrawal, have stalled for months, leaving many uncertainties in the region. According to Al Jazeera, the situation remains precarious as both sides have yet to reach a resolution.
