A woman has been charged with murder after police found the body of a preschooler at a home on the New South Wales Central Coast. Police were alerted after the 32-year-old woman presented herself at a local police station on Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to speak with the woman but were unable to do so. Later, they found the child’s body inside the residence, which showed significant arm injuries. According to The Guardian, Tuggerah Lakes police district commander, Supt Chad Gillies, stated that the woman lived alone with the child and they shared a “domestic relationship.”

The woman, who was known to police, drove to the station, prompting a search of her apartment where the child was discovered deceased. A crime scene was established, and authorities seized her vehicle along with other evidence. Supt Gillies described the scene as “extremely confronting” for even the most seasoned officers.

On Sunday, the woman was charged with murder (domestic violence). During a brief court hearing, her lawyer did not apply for bail on her behalf. The case has been adjourned until 1 September, and police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death with assistance from the homicide squad.
