Alisa Bowen is leaving her role as president of Disney+ to become chief executive officer of Fubo, the internet TV streaming service that is majority-owned by Disney. Fubo said its board appointed Bowen as chief executive officer effective July 10; she succeeds David Gandler, a FuboTV co-founder who led the company as CEO for more than a decade. Gandler is also leaving the Fubo board.

According to Variety, Bowen’s annual base salary at Fubo will be $1.575 million, and she will be eligible for an annual performance bonus with a target equal to 120% of her base; her bonus for 2026 will be pro-rated to reflect the portion of the year she is employed. Fubo’s SEC filing also says Bowen will be granted restricted stock units valued at $3.5 million that will vest over three years, an annual equity award for 2026 valued at $8 million, plus a one‑time $1.1 million bonus if she remains employed through Dec. 31, 2026.

The CEO change follows last fall’s closing of a deal that merged Hulu + Live TV operations with Fubo, leaving Disney with a 70% stake in the combined company. Fubo’s board chair Andy Bird said the appointment was the culmination of a thoughtful process led by the independent directors to find the next leader to advance Fubo’s strategy; Fubo noted Bowen brings nearly 30 years of product, digital and operational experience and leadership across Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+.

Bowen has served as president of Disney+ since September 2022 and has held leadership positions at Disney for nearly 10 years. She was a founding member of Disney’s streaming leadership team and helped scale Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+. Prior to Disney, she held leadership roles at News Corp, Dow Jones and Thomson Reuters.

Bowen, 53, received a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and an MBA with distinction from London Business School. She is expected to join Fubo’s board subject to approval by the board following the company’s annual meeting of stockholders on July 28.

What happens next: It is not clear that Disney will appoint a direct replacement for Bowen at Disney+. Disney now operates a unified streaming business led by Joe Earley and Adam Smith as co-presidents of its direct-to-consumer business, sharing responsibility for strategy and financial performance across Disney+ and Hulu.
