According to Cnbc, Comcast’s second-quarter results showed growth at NBCUniversal’s television and film businesses as the company prepares to separate its media and broadband operations into two publicly traded companies.

Peacock reached profitability for the first time since its 2020 launch, Comcast said. The streaming service benefited from live sports, including the FIFA World Cup and NBA postseason, and added subscribers. Revenue in Comcast’s content and experiences segment, which includes NBCUniversal, rose almost 23% from a year earlier to $10.73 billion.

Television media revenue benefited from Peacock and higher advertising, while film studio revenue increased 25%. Theme parks revenue rose nearly 3%, as higher revenue in Orlando offset softness at international parks. The FIFA World Cup, which began in mid-June and aired in Spanish in the United States on Telemundo, also boosted the segment.

Connectivity and platforms revenue, covering Xfinity broadband, mobile and cable television offerings, fell 3% to $19.8 billion. EBITDA for the unit declined nearly 6% to $7.96 billion. Comcast lost 167,000 total residential broadband customers and 280,000 cable TV subscribers during the quarter, though its mobile business added a record number of lines and reached 10.2 million lines.

Overall quarterly revenue declined 1.2% to $29.94 billion, while pro-forma revenue, accounting for the completed Versant spinoff, was 4.7% higher. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.04, above the 97-cent Wall Street estimate cited by LSEG. Comcast shares were about 1.5% higher in premarket trading Thursday.
