According to BBC News, English gymnast Gabriel Langton has been cleared of serious injury after falling from the horizontal bar during the opening day of Commonwealth Games competition on Friday.

The 19-year-old fell head first from three metres after missing his catch on the horizontal metal bar in the final rotation. He had competed on floor, rings and parallel bars before the incident, which caused a lengthy halt before he was taken away on a stretcher and transported to hospital.

Team England said Langton underwent “multiple scans” on Saturday and received “very positive results”. He is due to be discharged from hospital on Saturday evening, but has not qualified for any remaining events at the Games.

When competition resumed, Langton’s team-mates won silver behind Canada, although he has yet to receive his medal. Team England said he was in good spirits, grateful for messages of support and medical care, and looking forward to rejoining the team to celebrate the result.

Langton had been a late addition to Team England, replacing injured six-time Olympic medallist Max Whitlock. Team-mate Luke Whitehouse said the squad had to reset and focus on their routines after the fall.
