Arabic version: العثور على جثة بعد حريق منزل في كياما

According to ABC News, a person was found dead after a house fire in Kiama on the NSW south coast on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to a property on Manning Street just before 9:30pm and found the house engulfed in flames. Fire and Rescue NSW responded with eight fire trucks and about 28 firefighters, with assistance from the NSW Rural Fire Service and police.

NSW Police said the person has not yet been formally identified. Investigators are continuing to examine the cause of the fire, which police are not treating as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

FRNSW acting superintendent Peter Murray said crews contained the blaze to the property, but the home was extensively damaged. He said firefighters helped make the site safe before handing it over to police.

Kiama state MP Katelin McInerney described the incident as “incredibly sad” and urged residents to check smoke alarms, use heaters safely and keep fire blankets in kitchens and bedrooms. The death follows another fatal house fire in Coniston near Wollongong a fortnight earlier.
