According to ABC News, Queensland has released a draft masterplan for the Victoria Park Precinct, setting out pedestrian connections, expanded green space and Games infrastructure for Brisbane 2032.

The plan proposes pedestrian bridges linking Victoria Park with the Brisbane CBD and the National Aquatic Centre at Centenary Pool. About two-thirds of the park would be green public space under the draft, which forms part of a $7.1 billion infrastructure program jointly funded by the state and federal governments.

The broader program includes Brisbane Stadium, the National Aquatic Centre, upgrades to Brisbane Showgrounds, and expanded parklands and public spaces. Victoria Park was selected for the new Games stadium by the Crisafulli government in 2025, reversing an earlier position that the premier said was the “only option”.

Deputy Premier and Minister for the Games Jarrod Bleijie said the proposal would make the site more accessible and create opportunities for community sport after the Games. The government said the precinct would be accessible regardless of age or ability.

Queensland is investigating cycling and pedestrian links over the Inner City Bypass and rail corridor to connect the precinct with the city and Fortitude Valley. The draft also proposes expanding York’s Hollow wetland and planting an urban forest to soften the landscape. Public consultation opens Monday and continues until September 27.
