According to ABC News, Australia topped the Commonwealth Games medal tally in Glasgow after the final medals were awarded, closing the competition with a strong final session in track and para track cycling.

Australia also finished first at the velodrome, collecting 10 gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals. Wales placed second in the cycling medal standings with six gold, three silver and two bronze, while England was third with three gold, seven silver and five bronze.

Oliver Bleddyn won silver in the men’s 40km points race, the final event of the track and para track cycling program and of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Bleddyn scored 80 points, behind Isle of Man rider Matthew Bostock on 83, while New Zealand’s George Jackson took bronze with 61. Australians Blake Agnoletto and Conor Leahy finished ninth and 10th.

Tara Neyland claimed gold in the women’s C4-C5 1,000m time trial in a C4 world-record real time of 1:09.667. Her factored time was 1:08.761. It was Neyland’s second gold of the Games, while teammate Erin Normoyle won bronze and England’s Kadeena Cox took silver.

Australia’s other final-day results included netball bronze, with the Diamonds defeating England, and silver medals for judokas Kayhan Ozcicek-Takagi in the men’s heavyweight division and Maria Swan in the women’s -78kg division. Alyssa Polites won the women’s elimination race, while Damien Delgado and James Reynolds won the men’s para pairs B6-B8 bowls title.
