According to ABC News, the Cronulla Sharks defeated South Sydney 32-16 on Sunday, while Parramatta claimed a late 16-13 victory over Wests Tigers. In the NRLW, Brisbane beat Canterbury 34-4 at Magic Round, Gold Coast held off the Warriors 18-16 and Newcastle defeated Parramatta 32-12.

South Sydney began its top-eight contest strongly, scoring first and playing against 12 men after Cronulla’s Teig Wilton was sin-binned for a high shot on Jack Wighton. The Sharks responded with 18 unanswered points before half-time and extended their advantage in the second half. Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett said execution errors continued to hurt his side, which missed more than 50 tackles, conceded six penalties and allowed three six-again restarts.

The result left Souths seventh on the NRL ladder with 10 wins and nine losses, one win ahead of 10th-placed Manly. Sharks halfback Nicho Hynes was successful with all six goal attempts, setting a Cronulla club record of 32 consecutive goals. He moved within three of the all-time record of 35, held by Canterbury great Hazem El Masri from 2003.

Parramatta led Wests Tigers 12-0 at half-time but fell behind when Adam Doueihi scored, kicked two goals and landed a 72nd-minute field goal. The Eels recovered after a shoulder-charge penalty against Tigers captain Api Koroisau, with Mitchell Moses setting up fullback Isaiah Iongi for the decisive try in the 76th minute. The loss was Wests Tigers’ seventh straight defeat and left them 16th.

Brisbane’s win over Canterbury was its 15th straight, while the Broncos and Sydney Roosters remained unbeaten at 5-0. Gold Coast protected an 18-0 lead before escaping with a two-point win over the Warriors, and Newcastle used four unanswered tries in 12 minutes to put its victory over Parramatta beyond doubt.
