According to ABC News, Canberra Grammar School is investigating after male students created and shared a list ranking the appearance of female students in a year-level group chat.

School head Justin Garrick wrote to staff and parents in the affected cohort on July 24, saying “demeaning commentary” had been circulating and that the school was taking the matter “very seriously”. The school did not write directly to students at that stage because the matter was still being investigated.

ABC News said it obtained a heavily redacted copy of the list containing 100 names. It included a colour-coded ranking system and scores from “S” to “F”. The ABC did not identify the year level involved.

In a second email to families last Wednesday, the school said families had contacted it after learning of the list. It said supporting young people through complex matters required “time, sensitivity and care”.

The school met students from the affected cohort last Wednesday and offered support from its psychologist and chaplain. Canberra Grammar said the meeting was intended to acknowledge the impact on the year group, reinforce respect and dignity, and encourage students to move forward positively. The school was contacted for comment.
