According to BBC News, Welsh Fire captain Phil Salt would like The Hundred to be extended by a week after his side played three matches in five days.
Welsh Fire won at Birmingham Phoenix on Saturday, beat Southern Brave in Cardiff on Monday and then lost to Manchester Super Giants on Wednesday. Salt said the sequence had been “a little bit hectic”, citing travel between Birmingham, Cardiff and the latest fixture while players managed their bodies.
The Hundred group stage is held over 23 days, with each team playing eight games. By comparison, Indian Premier League teams play 14 group matches across 56 days, while teams in last season’s men’s Big Bash League played 10 group games in a 36-day window.
Salt said Welsh Fire bring in leading overseas players, including Marco Jansen and Lockie Ferguson, and noted that both had spent significant time travelling by bus. He said he understood the constraints of an already tight calendar but would prefer more recovery time between matches.
The Professional Cricketers Association has continued to raise player-welfare concerns about English cricket’s crowded summer. In its response to the 2026 schedule, PCA chief executive Daryl Mitchell said the unchanged County Championship season raised concerns over burnout and the mental and physical dangers of an intense end to the season following The Hundred.
Second-placed Welsh Fire next face Sunrisers Leeds at Headingley on Sunday at 14:30 BST. They then host London Spirit in their final group-stage match next Wednesday.
