Arabic version: طرابزون سبور يستعد لتأكيد التعاقد مع محمد صلاح
According to BBC News, Trabzonspor are set to confirm the signing of former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah after the Egypt captain arrived in Turkey to a large welcome from supporters. Hundreds of fans gathered outside Ataturk Airport in Istanbul on Wednesday, where Salah appeared in Trabzonspor colours and engaged with the crowd.
The 34-year-old left Liverpool at the end of last season following nine years on Merseyside, during which he scored 257 goals. He helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup, FA Cup and two EFL Cups. Salah also won the Premier League Golden Boot four times and was named Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year in 2018, 2022 and 2025.
Trabzonspor will present Salah as their new number 10 at a signing ceremony at Papara Park on Thursday at 17:30 BST. The club has asked supporters to wear the new season’s shirts and attend the event. The financial details are unclear, although Salah is a free agent, allowing the Super Lig side to direct more of its budget towards his wages.
Trabzonspor finished third last season, eight points behind champions Galatasaray, and will play European football in the next campaign. If they do not reach the Europa League league phase through the play-offs, they will enter the Conference League. Salah has scored 50 Champions League goals.
The move represents a major shift for Trabzonspor, who have traditionally focused on developing younger players and identifying talent with resale potential. The club, nicknamed the Black Sea Storm, have won seven league titles and last lifted the Turkish title in 2022. Salah’s arrival is expected to renew supporter enthusiasm and could increase shirt sales and the club’s commercial appeal.
