According to ABC News, Brisbane reinforced its top-four credentials with an 18.17 (125) to 8.10 (58) victory over Hawthorn at the Gabba, responding to the previous week’s 76-point loss to Carlton with a 67-point win over the third-placed Hawks.
Kai Lohmann kicked five goals and Logan Morris added four, all in the first half, as the Lions established control. Charlie Cameron kicked three goals and Eric Hipwood scored two, while Ryan Lester marked his 250th AFL game with a late goal. Jarrod Berry also reached a milestone, making his 200th AFL appearance.
Will Ashcroft collected a game-high 39 disposals, along with 13 score involvements, seven clearances and six intercepts. Lachie Neale had 35 disposals, seven marks, eight tackles and six clearances, while Harris Andrews took 10 marks. Brisbane finished with 394 disposals to Hawthorn’s 349 and led 65-50 in inside 50s.
Hawthorn’s defeat ended a four-game winning run before its next match against Collingwood at the MCG. Jack Gunston kicked three goals and Josh Ward had 28 disposals, but the Hawks were unable to mount meaningful resistance after Brisbane scored three quick goals early in the second quarter. The Lions climbed back into the AFL top four, though they could still be overtaken by the end of round 22.
Elsewhere, Geelong identified veteran defender Jake Kolodjashnij as the player involved in the club’s concussion waiver scandal. Cats chief executive Steve Hocking said the club had received a “please explain” memo from the league.
