According to Al Jazeera, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian east of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza on Saturday, while health authorities confirmed another death after a body was recovered from rubble.

The Qatar News Agency, citing medical sources, reported the shooting near Deir el-Balah. Gaza’s Health Ministry said on Sunday that hospitals had received the bodies of two Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks, including one person whose remains were recovered from the debris of destroyed buildings.

At least five people, including children, were wounded in attacks in Khan Younis and Rafah in southern Gaza on Saturday, QNA reported. Local sources said Israeli tank fire hit tents sheltering displaced people in Khan Younis, critically wounding a woman. A girl was seriously wounded by Israeli army fire in the al-Mawasi coastal area of Rafah.

Israeli artillery shelled areas east of Khan Younis, while Israeli fire wounded several additional people in the al-Mahatta area of Gaza City’s Tuffah neighbourhood. The Health Ministry put the overall toll since Israel launched its war in Gaza in October 2023 at 73,386 killed and 174,250 wounded. It said many bodies remain under rubble and cannot be reached by ambulance and Palestinian Civil Defence crews.

Since a ceasefire took effect in October, the ministry has recorded 1,258 people killed, 4,139 wounded and 807 bodies recovered from rubble. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel had rejected US President Donald Trump’s 15-point plan for Gaza, saying Israeli forces would not withdraw until Hamas was disarmed. The US-led Board of Peace had taken a similar position last week, leaving the ceasefire’s terms and a timeline for an Israeli exit unresolved.
