According to ABC News, Bangladesh took command on the opening day of the first Test in Darwin, dismissing Australia for 198 before reaching 1-96 at stumps. The tourists trailed by 102 runs with nine first-innings wickets remaining after a disciplined bowling performance exposed Australia’s batting problems.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat, but their innings quickly faltered. Jake Weatherald made 23 before Hasan Mahmud had him caught behind, while Travis Head played on for 22. Marnus Labuschagne scored one from 20 balls, Cameron Green made 12, and Australia were 4-74 at lunch.

Steve Smith top-scored with 71, although he was dropped on two by Tanzid Hasan at slip. Smith and Alex Carey added 55 after lunch, but Carey was bowled by Ebadot Hossain for 19 immediately after drinks. Beau Webster made 12, Pat Cummins nine and Mitch Starc one as the innings declined.

Bangladesh’s reply began with a 36-run opening stand before Mitchell Starc dismissed Shadman Islam for 20. Tanzid, who had been dropped without scoring when Lyon misjudged a catch off Josh Hazlewood, remained unbeaten on 32. Mominul Haque was 34 not out as the pair guided Bangladesh through the closing session without another loss.
