According to ABC News, a 43-year-old South Launceston woman has been charged after allegedly sending coffees containing an unknown substance to her former partner in what Tasmania Police described as a targeted and isolated attack. She faces two counts of attempting to unlawfully administer poison with intent to harm.

Police allege the woman bought the coffees, tampered with them and arranged for them to be delivered to her ex-partner through the Airtasker app. Inspector Aleena Crack said the 47-year-old man did not drink the first coffee, found it unusual and reported it to police, prompting an investigation that continued for months.

Inspector Crack said police would allege that several coffees were sent to the man over recent months after an unknown substance had been added, with an intention to cause physical harm. Police had early indications about the substance involved but were awaiting full forensic analysis.

The woman was arrested after being pulled over and taken into custody. She was due to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Saturday morning. Inspector Crack described the matter as a rare and unusual case for Tasmania.

Police said there was no suggestion that people who delivered the coffees were involved or knew about the alleged scheme. Airtasker is an online platform connecting people seeking everyday tasks with independent local contractors, and Inspector Crack said such delivery work was common.
