According to ABC News, Australia’s top four had departed in their second innings while the side remained more than 100 runs behind Bangladesh in Darwin, leaving the tourists increasingly close to a historic victory.

Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 426, securing a 228-run lead. The morning was described as another difficult period for Australia, with a dropped chance by Steve Smith among the setbacks for the hosts.

Smith later fell for 44, chipping a delivery back to Mehidy, who completed a diving catch. Bangladesh captain Shanto joined the celebrations as Australia’s position worsened, with Alex Carey arriving to face a major rebuilding task alongside Cameron Green.

Late in the day, Bangladesh used spin from both ends, with Taijul and Mehidy testing the Australian batters. Green played a cover drive for four off Taskin, while Carey struck a straight boundary and also used the reverse sweep. Australia still required 99 runs to make Bangladesh bat again, and Bangladesh needed six more wickets for an innings victory.
