According to ABC News, Australia defeated Japan 56-17 in the second Test in Townsville, producing a dominant second half after leading 21-17 at half-time. The result gave the Wallabies a third consecutive victory, their first run of three wins since 2024.

Japan tested Australia through the opening 50 minutes and held a late first-half lead. Both teams scored three tries in the first 40 minutes, but the Wallabies found greater polish in attack and defence after the break under new coach Les Kiss, who was in charge for his second match.

Massimo De Lutiis, the 1,000th capped Wallaby, came on in the 50th minute and scored a try on his debut minutes later. The 22-year-old prop said becoming a Wallaby was “a dream come true” and that he was “over the moon” after scoring.

Australia’s front row accounted for six of the team’s eight tries. Taniela Tupou scored twice in the first half, while Angus Bell, Josh Nasser and Brandon Paenga-Amosa also crossed. Charlie Cale and captain Harry Wilson added tries, and Ryan Lonergan was perfect with five successful kicks from five attempts.

Harry Wilson said Kiss challenged the team at half-time. Australia will next play two Tests in Argentina, followed by one against South Africa and two Bledisloe Cup matches against the All Blacks.
