According to ABC News, Bangladesh beat Australia by nine wickets in the first Test at Marrara Stadium in Darwin, securing the country’s first Test victory on Australian soil. Chasing 57 after Australia were bowled out for 284, Mominul Haque finished 30 not out and Shadman Islam was unbeaten on 25 as the tourists reached their target before tea on day four.

Australia began the fourth day 67 runs behind Bangladesh, with Cameron Green and Alex Carey at the crease. Bangladesh maintained its discipline as Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Carey and Beau Webster, before Pat Cummins fell for eight. Green produced his third Test century, and his first on home soil, but Australia’s wickets continued to fall around him.

Hasan Mahmud, named player of the match, dismissed Green after the all-rounder’s century. Mehidy then trapped Nathan Lyon lbw to complete a five-wicket haul and finish Australia’s innings at 284. Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan for a duck at 1-4 in its chase, but Mominul and Shadman steadied the innings to complete a landmark win.

Australian captain Pat Cummins said his team had no excuses and defended its preparation. “I thought our preparation was pretty much spot on, I thought it was excellent, so no excuses,” Cummins said. He praised Bangladesh’s performance while saying Australia needed to bat longer and find more penetration with the ball. The second Test begins in Mackay on Saturday, August 22, with the first ball scheduled for 10:00am AEST.
