According to ABC News, ACT Policing and NSW Police have conducted coordinated cross-border operations targeting domestic and family violence offenders, resulting in 15 arrests in the ACT and 732 arrests across New South Wales. ACT Policing’s five-day Operation Shepherd ran last week alongside NSW Police’s three-day Operation Amarok.

In the ACT operation, police located three people wanted by NSW Police who were living in Canberra. One man was arrested in NSW and extradited to the ACT. A further five men received summonses to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court for family violence-related offences or alleged breaches of orders and conditions.

Police seized two firearms, ammunition and drugs after arresting a 51-year-old man who was also served with a family violence order. Another man was charged with multiple offences after allegedly assaulting his partner over several years. Detective Superintendent Kylie Lawson said the joint work enabled police to locate and arrest people who had evaded detection.

Across NSW, Operation Amarok led to 1,589 charges, 1,497 bail compliance checks and 12,054 apprehended domestic violence order compliance checks. Police identified 546 breaches and seized more than 100 firearms and 16 weapons. Superintendent Danielle Emerton said the agencies shared intelligence and resources, while ACT Police Minister Marisa Paterson said the operations sent a message that perpetrators could not hide behind borders.
