According to ABC News, finisher medals for the 2026 Sydney Marathon mistakenly depict Munich’s Allianz Arena rather than Sydney’s Allianz Stadium in Moore Park.

Organisers said the reverse of the medal was designed with eight circles representing the Abbott World Marathon Majors and a Sydney skyline featuring course landmarks. Eagle-eyed viewers identified the incorrect stadium alongside the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Tower Eye and St Mary’s Cathedral.

A Sydney Marathon spokesperson described the issue as an “unfortunate error” and said the event would not replace the medals with the marathon one week away. The organisers said the error had added “a little too much international flavour” and that finishers would receive the existing medal.

The medal’s front and lanyard feature a blue and white Indigenous design by First Nations artist Ambrose Killian. Killian said he had no involvement in the reverse-side design or production, including the inclusion of the Munich stadium.

The marathon is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, with a record 40,000 entrants. The 42.2-kilometre course begins at North Sydney Oval, crosses the Harbour Bridge, travels through the city and Kingsford, returns through Centennial Park and finishes at the Sydney Opera House.
