According to ABC News, emergency services have found no trace of Stephanie Cordery, 42, three weeks after she disappeared in northern New South Wales. Cordery left her Ballina home at about 5am on August 5. CCTV recorded her travelling through Lismore to Nimbin, where her car was later found abandoned in a friend’s driveway at Mt Nardi.

NSW Police described the multi-agency search in heavily vegetated terrain as “significant and sustained”. Officers have been assisted by search dogs, Marine Area Command, the SES, Rural Fire Service and Queensland Remote Area Tracking personnel. Police also sent a geo-targeted text message to more than 68,000 mobile phones in the Nimbin area and used drones and other specialist resources. Dams and waterways near the vehicle were searched this week, without finding Cordery.

Her mother, Joyce Cordery, praised crews working in “unforgiving territory” but questioned whether regional searches had sufficient resources. Charlie Cohen, deputy captain of the Nimbin Rural Fire Service, said the area included steep terrain, cliffs and dense canopy, limiting helicopter and drone searches. He said teams searched both sides of the valley, mapped their coverage and returned to gaps or voids, while police with dogs searched the area four to five times.

Cordery’s family has called for the search to continue. Her sister Monique said Cordery lived with schizophrenia but was not suicidal. A NSW parliamentary inquiry is examining historical unsolved murders and missing-person cases, and chair Jeremy Buckingham said he hoped it would lead to a statewide search authority. Police urged anyone with information about Cordery’s whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
