According to BBC News, Maia Bouchier made 104 from 95 balls as England beat Ireland by six wickets in the first one-day international at Leicester, completing their highest successful chase in women’s ODIs.

England reached 283-4 in 38.1 overs after Ireland posted 281-5 from 50 overs. The hosts had 11.5 overs remaining and lead the three-match series 1-0.

Bouchier and Sophia Dunkley, who scored 73 from 61 balls, shared 143 for the first wicket. Bouchier was dismissed with 59 runs still required, but Alice Capsey and Freya Kemp added 54 from 38 balls. Capsey finished unbeaten on 41 and struck the winning boundary, while Kemp made 36 from 22 balls.

Ireland’s innings featured half-centuries from captain Gaby Lewis, who made 69, Amy Hunter, who scored 62, and Rebecca Stokell, who was unbeaten on 54 from 48 balls. Lewis and Hunter put on 136 for the second wicket, before Stokell and Leah Paul added 84 for the fifth wicket.

Cara Murray took 3-58 for Ireland. England’s Charlie Dean returned 2-44, while Jodi Grewcock made nine in her first appearance in the side. The series continues at Derby on Thursday.
