According to BBC News, Ghana have reappointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the men’s national team after internal discussions by the Ghana Football Association.

The 73-year-old took charge of the Black Stars in April and guided them to the last 32 of this year’s Fifa World Cup, where Ghana lost 1-0 to Colombia. Queiroz appeared to announce his departure on social media shortly after that defeat, but the GFA has chosen to bring him back for another spell.

The association has not disclosed the length of his new contract. It said Queiroz would prepare Ghana for “a successful new phase on the international stage”, adding that his international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars placed him strongly to lead the team.

Queiroz previously had two spells as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at Manchester United. He has also led Iran, Portugal and Egypt at major tournaments, and has managed South Africa, Colombia and Qatar.

In an Instagram post, Queiroz said continuing in the role gave him “immense pride and honour”. He said Ghana’s ambition was to improve every day, unite the nation, make the country stronger and fight for victories with passion, humility and pride.

His second spell will begin with qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations later this month. Ghana are in Group C with Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia, although dates and venues for their first two matches have not yet been announced.
