According to BBC News, Alexander Isak said joining Liverpool from Newcastle last summer was an “easy decision”, citing the scale of the club, its ambition and its determination to sign him. The Sweden striker arrived on transfer deadline day in September 2025 for a British record fee of £125m.

Isak missed pre-season and trained with former club Real Sociedad while his Newcastle future was uncertain. He had a difficult first season at Anfield, struggling for goals before a broken leg kept him out from December to April. The 26-year-old has already equalled last season’s Premier League total of three goals after four matches this term.

Asked whether he had regretted the transfer, Isak said: “No, never. I would never think like that.” He said the injury was tough, but added that he was looking forward and felt optimistic about the season. Isak also made his World Cup debut for Sweden over the summer after making 22 Liverpool appearances and playing 1,032 minutes last season.

New Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has instructed Isak to defend from the front, which the striker described as an attacking weapon because it can create quick counter-attacks. Liverpool are seeking a front-foot, aggressive approach and have recorded the most sprints in the Premier League this season. Isak, who has scored 60 Premier League goals, said the team should score more if it moves the ball quickly to its attacking players, while stressing that Liverpool’s success is measured by trophies.
