According to ABC News, Sydney led Fremantle 3.3 (21) to 2.1 (13) early in the first quarter of their AFL preliminary final at the SCG on Friday night.

Fremantle began with territorial pressure, recording the first three inside-50 entries and leading the early clearance count 2-0. Neil Erasmus kicked a goal from the pocket after Josh Treacy’s pressure forced Errol Gulden to kick out on the full, before Luke Jackson marked inside 50 and converted from a difficult angle.

Sydney responded through Braeden Campbell, who snapped a goal in heavy traffic after Brodie Grundy won a centre clearance. Tom Papley then kicked the Swans’ second straight goal, and Logan McDonald added another with a set shot from 35 metres after a passage involving Campbell and Charlie Curnow.

Despite Fremantle leading the inside-50 count 7-2 at one stage, Sydney’s defence held firm with intercept marks. Gulden had four touches in the opening five minutes. Both teams entered unchanged on the night, with Sydney bringing Justin McInerney and Lewis Melican into its qualifying-final side for Callum Mills and Harry Cunningham, while Fremantle retained last week’s team.
