According to The Guardian, Fremantle defeated Sydney 12.11 (83) to 10.11 (71) in an AFL preliminary final at the SCG on 18 September 2026, securing a place in the club’s second grand final.
Sydney led 4.5 (29) to 2.1 (13) at quarter-time and held a 7.6 (48) to 4.5 (29) advantage at half-time. The Swans extended their lead to 10.10 (70) to 7.7 (49) at the final break, leaving Fremantle facing a 21-point deficit.
The Dockers transformed the contest in the last term, kicking 5.4 while restricting Sydney to 0.1. Fremantle won the final-quarter inside-50 count 23-6, clearances 12-5 and contested possessions 49-27, as they overturned the deficit.
Shai Bolton kicked a goal from outside the arc to launch the late charge, before Patrick Voss added another. Mason Cox put Fremantle in front for the first time since early in the opening term, and Dudley then ran to the goalline to seal the result. Sydney’s Tom Papley hit the post with a late chance.
Logan McDonald finished as Sydney’s only multiple goalkicker with three, while Luke Jackson kicked two for Fremantle. Errol Gulden had 27 disposals, five clearances and 652 metres gained for Sydney, while Caleb Serong recorded 21 disposals and seven clearances for the Dockers.
