According to ABC News, an 11-year-old boy is in a serious condition after being shot in the face and neck inside a unit in Sydney’s north-west on Monday.

Paramedics and police were called to Fairway Drive in Norwest just before 5pm following reports of a shooting. Superintendent Naomi Moore said six people were inside the home when officers arrived, including the boy, a 44-year-old woman and four 18-year-old men.

Police provided aid to the child before ambulance crews arrived, Superintendent Moore said. He was taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead for life-saving treatment, where his mother was with him.

Three men, all aged 18, were arrested and were assisting police. Two were in custody at Castle Hill Police Station and the third was taken to Roverwood Police Station. Police said it was too early to determine what happened inside the property or whether one of the men fired the shot.

The firearm used had not been found, and police said there were no registered firearms at the address. The unit block was cordoned off while officers established an expansive crime scene. Police said they had nothing to suggest the shooting was related to organised crime and would conduct a thorough investigation.
