According to BBC News, Mikel Arteta has agreed an improved new contract to extend his stay as Arsenal manager.

The Spaniard’s existing deal was due to expire at the end of the current season. Talks over a replacement agreement had been under way for several months, with BBC Sport reporting earlier this month that all parties were close to an agreement.

Arteta has now reached a final agreement with Arsenal. The length of the new contract has not been confirmed, but it is expected to keep him at the Emirates into at least his 10th year after he arrived in December 2019.

The deal is also set to include a significant increase on Arteta’s current salary of £10m per year, plus £5m in bonuses. Speaking last week about the negotiations, Arteta said he wanted to remain at the club and was “extremely happy” to work with the people around him.
